4 tips to get the most out of your group fitness experience!

A common question I get from new clients is, “What class should I take if I have never been to your studio before?” At Flex Studios we completely understand wanting to get the full benefit of a group fitness class when you are not an expert on they type of class or maybe not the most body aware in general. Here we have structured all of our programs to have a small class size. This allows the instructor to be able to see every person/body in the room and give hands on adjustments. At FLEX we are so form focused and care that each client old or new is getting the most out of each exercise that we give. Here are a few tips on what you can do in class to ensure you get the most out of the group fitness class experience.

1. Bring a positive attitude and energy into the room. In a group setting the energy of each individual matters. The room feeds off of the hard work of the people in it. This is not to say that you need to be at the same level as someone else in the room. It is to say work at your own personal best and this will keep the energy in the room alive!

2. Stay tuned in! We all have moments where we drift off in our minds and just go thought the motions. When taking class try to stay as present as possible. It is not just about your body but how your mind and your body connect. Think about where you are feeling each exercise and make sure it matches where the teacher says the target area is. The more in tune you are the quicker you will see and feel changes in your body! It will feel great to let go of the chatter in your mind and just focus on one thing that is going to benefit you for an entire hour!

3. In line with staying tuned in also really listen. Listen to all the cues your instructor is giving you. I know most instructors cue to the room, meaning that what they see being done wrong in the room is what they are going to talk about. So the information they are giving you in class is catered directly to the needs of the people in the room at that time. Don’t assume something doesn’t apply to your body. Always check in and see where your form is and if there are adjustments you can make.

4. Feel free to ask questions before or after class. If something is not resonating with you ask the instructor to explain further. This way the next time you can execute the exercise with confidence and get the most out of it. Instructors love to answer your questions and help you out! It means that you are as invested in what you are doing and care about your progress as much as we do!
