Alex was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with an innate passion for movement. Whether running loose in the neighborhood, playing sports, or dancing, the functional mechanics and expression of the body always captured her imagination. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and is currently working as a freelance dance artist and Pilates instructor based out of New York City. She was first introduced to Pilates at the age of 11 when a ballet master recommended it as a form of cross training to stabilize and strengthen her hyper-mobile and injury prone joints. Pilates quickly became the most successful form of injury prevention and rehabilitation for her rigorous dance schedule.
Alex’s Pilates certification and education began in college where she trained in the Fletcher technique. Further education within Pilates includes traveling to Maine for Bates Dance Festival as well as California for the San Fransisco Conservatory of Dance, where she deepened her study of functional anatomy and Pilates mat. Once she moved to the city, she quickly discovered and fell into the FLEX community where she’s been training and working on the administrative team for the last 3 years. Currently, she is working towards her full comprehensive certification in Brooklyn under Pilates master Ellie Herman.
Alex is incredibly excited to make this transition from student to teacher here at FLEX. Pilates has personally guided her own journey towards health and strength. Her passion for instructing lies in sharing the knowledge of the body she has accumulated in a fun and supportive environment. Her goal is to have everyone leave her class feeling better than when they entered and with a deeper knowledge of their own facility.
